How Casino floor & table owners plays in OmertaEra, the free Prohibition-era mafia MMO. The same rules are shown where the game is played, and every outcome is provably fair.
The casino floor lists the tables in your state in two groups. Against the house: Blackjack, Roulette, Slots, Keno, Race Track, Jacks or Better, Craps, Baccarat, Faro and Chuck-a-luck. Against other players: Texas Hold’em, Seven-Card Stud and Russian Roulette, played at tables gathered in your city. The Lottery is one national draw, and the Prize Wheel only turns during events.
At every table
- Each state has one each of the 10 house tables — Blackjack, Roulette, Slots, Keno, Race Track, Jacks or Better, Craps, Baccarat, Faro and Chuck-a-luck. You play at the one in the state you are standing in, and not while you are in jail, in the hospital or on the road.
- Stakes are whole dollars from $1, paid from the cash in your pocket. Every multiplier shown includes your stake: 2× on $100 hands you back $200.
- A table nobody owns is run by the house: the limit is $2,500 and it always pays. A limit is on everything one hand or one round puts at risk: a blackjack double, a whole roulette or craps layout.
- An owned table sets its own limit ($2,500 or more, or no limit; at $25,000 or above, or with no limit, it wears a High Limit badge for exactly as long as the limit stays there), may send a share of its takings to the owner’s Family, and pays winners out of the owner’s cash in hand, then out of their bank. If neither can cover your win you take everything they have in both and the table itself; nobody can play at a table for 5 minutes after it changes hands. You cannot play at your own table.
Rooms and seats
- Each house game has one room in every city, with 5 seats at Blackjack, 6 seats at Roulette, 10 seats at Slots, 8 seats at Keno, 8 seats at Race Track, 4 seats at Jacks or Better, 8 seats at Craps, 7 seats at Baccarat, 8 seats at Faro and 8 seats at Chuck-a-luck. Opening a game’s page sits you down. The room shows who is sitting there and how their last play went.
- Your page checks in every 20 seconds; a seat with no check-in for 60 seconds is cleared. Stand up any time and you keep watching and playing.
- Rooms stay busy: other players drop in while someone is there (and for 10 minutes after), always leaving one seat free, and when a newcomer needs a seat one of them gets up at once. Everyone plays by the same rules, for their own cash.
- At the slot machines and the Jacks or Better machines you see every machine in the room: each player’s last reels or cards and what they paid.
- If nobody can make room you watch from the rail, and still play from there.
- Roulette, Race Track, Keno, Craps, Baccarat, Faro and Chuck-a-luck run on a shared clock: Roulette every 30 seconds (bets close after 22 seconds), Race Track every 60 seconds (bets close after 45 seconds), Keno every 45 seconds (bets close after 35 seconds), Craps every 36 seconds (bets close after 30 seconds), Baccarat every 35 seconds (bets close after 27 seconds), Faro every 20 seconds (bets close after 14 seconds) and Chuck-a-luck every 25 seconds (bets close after 19 seconds). One bet (one layout) per player per round; everybody sees the same result.
- Blackjack is one shared table too: bets for 15 seconds, then one shoe dealt to everyone who bet, each seat playing in turn with 20 seconds a decision, then the dealer.
- A shared round is drawn from a room seed: its SHA-256 hash is shown when the round opens, before any bet, and the seed itself when it settles. The result (the blackjack shoe included) is HMAC-SHA256(seed, room id : round number), and every bet on it can be replayed on the fairness page. The craps point and the faro cards already out are fixed when a round opens, before its hash is shown. Slots and Jacks or Better are dealt to each player from their own seed pair.
Owning a table
- Every table is a property. A vacant one costs $10,000,000 to pick up, from the properties page, in its state.
- Every stake lost at your table comes into your cash and every win is paid out of it; empty your pocket and the next winner takes the table.
- Properties are lost on death.
