How Russian Roulette (multiplayer) plays in OmertaEra, the free Prohibition-era mafia MMO. The same rules are shown where the game is played, and every outcome is provably fair.
6 chairs, one revolver, played for points. Each round one of the players still seated takes the bullet: they keep their money and their life, but every rank point they have is gone and they are out. The last one sitting takes the pot.
- Who sits
- Boss rank and up, not in jail, hospital or on the road
- Buy-in
- 100 points to 1,000 points, the same for every chair
- Players
- 2–6
- Pot
- Every buy-in. The winner takes 95%; the house keeps 5%.
Opening a game
- Gather players at a local table in your city first. When the host deals, the host opens the revolver table and pays their own buy-in there; a host below Boss or short of points cannot.
- Everyone else then takes a chair at that table themselves on this page, paying their own buy-in. A chair is first come, first served; you can sit at one live table at a time.
- The game starts the moment the 6th chair is taken, or 5 minutes after the table opened if at least 2 are seated. A table that still has fewer than 2 after 30 minutes is canceled and every buy-in and bet is refunded.
Playing it out
- Rounds come about 10 seconds apart (the server checks every few seconds). The chair that takes the bullet is picked evenly among everyone still seated.
- Before the start you may stand up and get your buy-in back; bets on you are refunded. If the last player stands up the table closes.
- Once the cylinder spins nobody leaves. The game runs on the server, so closing the page or losing your connection changes nothing.
Betting on a survivor
- Anyone not seated at the table, any rank, may back one player still in the game: 1 point to 1,000 points, one bet per game, before or during play.
- If your player is the last one sitting you are paid 2× your stake by the house; otherwise the bet is lost. Having a bet on a game stops you taking a chair at it.
